Pricing

Translation

Translation prices are linked to the volume of text – they are normally quoted per word or per thousand words of source text. If you provide the source text upfront, we will quote a fixed price.

Falcon Tip: Some companies charge by the line or by target text, so it is worth making sure you are comparing like for like when asking different companies to quote.

Generally our rates are fixed, but they may vary according to the following:

* Language combination
* Subject matter
* File format &/or layout
* Timeframe available to do the work
* Any special requirements

Falcon’s prices are all-inclusive – we don’t charge extra for proofreading, project management, formatting issues such as pagination, indexing, etc.

Falcon Tip: Some companies add “hidden extras” (e.g. proofreading or project management) so make sure you know what you are paying for.

It is generally easier to translate from editable soft copy (eg Word, Excel, PowerPoint files) rather than non-editable files (PDF) or hard copy (paper, fax) especially where layout is complex &/or contains lists or tables, so our price will be cheaper as we will not have to recreate the layout.

Falcon Tip: Provide editable soft copy for translation wherever possible - price and time savings can be significant.

Timing is all-important: we cannot ensure that the most suitable translator/s will always be available at short notice, and it may sometimes be necessary to charge a premium for urgent assignments involving evening or weekend work.

Falcon Tip: If price is more of an issue than timing, we can generally offer a reduced price for an extended delivery period.

Volume Discounts

We offer volume discounts for single- or multi-language projects, as well as discounts for regular users. These are generally between 5-20%, and are applied on a case-by-case basis.

Falcon Tip: Try to “batch” a number of small requirements which may not be individually time-critical; this can result in cost savings.

DTP

Desktop publishing is typically charged by the page - factors influencing price include the DTP software involved, complexity of layout, use of graphics, and any pagination and/or indexing that may be required.

Falcon Tip: Text expansion of up to 30% can occur from English into other languages, so allow extra space in your original design.

Interpreting

Interpreting is charged on a time basis – typically per day or per hour, depending on circumstances, with a minimum of a half-day. Extra chargeable costs may include travelling time to and from location, travel and out-of-pocket expenses, and overnight accommodation.

Falcon Tip: Simultaneous or conference interpreting commands a higher fee than consecutive or ad hoc interpreting.

Legal Services

Legal Services are charged on a time basis plus a standard charge per certification/legalisation according to circumstances. We provide the following legal services:

Certification by the Translator
Notarisation by a Notary Public
Legalisation by the Foreign Office or Consulate

Falcon Tip: By specifying the use for which the translation is intended, you can avoid paying for unnecessary services.
